Ancient Oaks is a 150 year old homestead on six beautiful and sunny acres just outside of the hamlet of Boulder Creek.
It is 25 minutes from Santa Cruz, up the redwood-forested San Lorenzo Valley, 33 minutes from the UCSC campus gate, and 35 minutes to the San Jose Airport.
The land here is truly magical, with both redwood and oak groves and fertile soil for gardening and is a gorgeous retreat away from the hustle bustle of Santa Cruz and the Bay Area.
Our newly renovated, 600 sq foot, fully furnished 1 bedroom 1 bath apartment will be available Jan 15th.
Situated on the second floor of our classic old barn, the space is light, inviting and cozy and the living room has ample space for an office.
We will also consider renting the apartment unfurnished.
Currently the kitchen is equipped with a high quality apartment refrigerator, countertop convection oven, a microwave and one freestanding stove burner.
We can provide a larger two burner unit if desired.
In the barn on the first floor is a large refrigerator that can be utilized for overflow refrigeration and freezer needs.
The barn is funky and fun, with a dance/yoga space, nice gym, library area, podcast studio, washer and dryer and lovely outside sitting areas.
The property has multiple residents forming a wonderfully informal community of friends.
The available barn apartment is currently occupied by a postdoc from Europe and his wife who are headed home in January.
Your closest neighbor, in our downstairs barn apartment, is a retired physicist.
Across from the barn in his own little oasis, lives our land guardian and gardener who is about the nicest fellow you could know.
The property also features a main farmhouse, built in the 1890s and currently occupied by a lovely couple in the 30s who are both entrepreneurs.
At the top of the property is a very fun Gandalf-themed house occupied by the owners, a married couple in their 60s and engaged in nonprofit and research projects.
Also in residence are three small dogs and three friendly cats.
With an additional deposit, we might be open to just the right friendly dog who does NOT chase cats.
Unfortunately another outdoor cat would disrupt the harmony here and we’re not open to indoor cats in this space.
Residents of Ancient Oaks come together informally now and then for discussion, meals and general good connections but we all have our own space and do our own thing.
We’re all omnivores who eat organically and live pretty cleanly and would love to share food from our gardens if you’re willing to help out now and again.
Although we drink wine occasionally and are 420 and entheogen friendly we are not open to sharing our property with heavy drinkers or cigarette smokers.
If you value a natural setting, love gardening, good food, hiking and conversations about science, philosophy, history or the world in general, you’ll find life here stimulating.
Parking is available directly in front of the barn for one car and access to roads is easy.
We may be able to accommodate a second car but space is tight.
The town of Boulder Creek is just 1.
3 miles away and has full services (good health food and grocery store, post office, drugstore, and some restaurants).
We are seeking tenants who are professionals, high integrity and mature communicators who would value this type of informal community and who could, in their own way, add good energy to our community.
Your income/rent ratio should be in a reasonable range and you should be able to provide 2-3 stellar references.
