*About Farm Discovery and Live Earth Farm: *
Live Earth Farm, established in 1996, is a 150 acre diversified, organic, family farm overlooking the Pajaro Valley in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains in California.
We run a year round CSA with about 600 members, growing over 50 different fruits and vegetables surrounded by a native landscape of redwoods and oak woodland.
Our produce is directly marketed through local farmer’s markets, restaurants, a thriving web store, and our weekly CSA program.
The education programs at Live Earth Farm began with the farm in 1996.
Farm Discovery at Live Earth was formally established as a nonprofit organization in 2007 to complement and expand the educational programs at Live Earth Farm.
Farm Discovery hosts more than 3000 youth and families on the farm each year for farm based, hands-on learning opportunities through 9 different programs.
*Job Description: *
Summer Farm Camp Counselors will lead groups of children in educational, farm-based, culinary and art activities.
Summer Farm Camp Counselors will help maintain the educational garden and fields, kitchen classroom and other facilities.
Fieldwork will include weeding, planting, harvesting, animal chores and other farming and gardening activities.
Facility maintenance will include sweeping, washing dishes, wiping surfaces, organizing art supplies, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen.
Summer Farm Camp Counselors work with and lead teen Leader’s in Training to provide a fun, safe, and educational environment for our day campers.
*Requirements: *
Summer Farm Camp Counselors will be able to
* lift 40 lbs, work outside most of the day,
* walk at least 5 miles in one day, be on their feet and active for most of the work day.
* be punctual, engaged and behave professionally.
* aware of all current Santa Cruz County COVID 19 restrictions and guidelines and willing to follow them in public and private settings.

* Understanding of Farm Discovery Policies, Staff Bios, Community Agreements, and Staff Schedule
* Ability to make decisions as a team and individually and carry out work efficiently and effectively
* Commitment to great customer service during educational programs and events
* Ability to work together as a team in all aspects of the nonprofit organization
* Desire to learn and ask questions; openness to different ideas/ways of doing things; think about what you’re learning, what you don’t know, observe & take notes of your observations; program debriefs
* Setting a good pace: think about how you’re working/how quickly and well you are accomplishing tasks; imagine this as your own nonprofit organization
* Assume ownership of tasks
* Create a happy, functioning, working community
* Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, offices, and surrounding area on the upper farm.

* Bilingual Spanish speaker.
* Experience and understanding of Latinx culture.
*Duration: *
10 weeks total including 2 weeks of training at 30 hours and 8 weeks of summer camp sessions at 40+ hours.
Beginning May 22, 2021, through July 30, or August 9, 2021.
Summer Farm Camp Counselors will report to the Education Director, the Education Associate, and the Executive Director.
Position Details: This is a 40+ hour per week, full time seasonal/temporary position.
Pay $16-$17/hour for the ten-week contract dispersed through bi-weekly checks.
In addition, the farm will provide organic produce, and fresh eggs.
