What’s on Your Plate: Job Title: Seafood Manager Department: Seafood Reports To: Store Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Summary: The Seafood Manager is responsible for overseeing the Seafood Department, ensuring exceptional customer service, managing staff, and maintaining high standards of quality and sanitation.
This role involves ordering seafood products, maintaining inventory levels, and collaborating with vendors.
The Seafood Manager contributes to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: General Requirements: • Provide strong leadership and guidance to the Seafood Department team, supervising 1-6 employees.
• Lead by example, demonstrating correct behavior, adherence to company policies, and exceptional customer service standards.
• Maintains the appropriate profit margin in accordance to the approved pre-set budget, which entails, but is not limited to: sales goals, cost of goods, expenses, price changes and waste management.
• Collaborate with Store Leadership and other department managers to optimize store operations and customer service.
• Oversee the cutting, trimming, boning, tying, grinding, and cooking of seafood to ensure high-quality products.
• Manage inventory, orders, and deliveries, ensuring proper storage, rotation, and monitoring of stock levels.
• Assist in ordering and receiving seafood products, verifying invoices, and maintaining appropriate profit margins according to budget guidelines.
• Implement and maintain the FIFO rotation system for perishable products.
• Provide extraordinary customer service, addressing special requests, providing information about seafood products, and suggesting cooking ideas.
• Handle customer complaints effectively, ensuring customer satisfaction and resolving issues promptly.
• Conduct in-service training for Seafood Department employees, including training documentation.
• Coach and mentor staff in suggestive selling techniques, sanitation procedures, and proper use of cleaning chemicals.
• Ensure the Seafood Department maintains clean, sanitary, and organized working conditions, including equipment, freezers, and surrounding areas.
• Monitor and maintain quality and sanitation standards in accordance with FDA regulations and local health department codes.
• Assist in managing costs by controlling shrink, theft, and waste management in the Seafood Department.
• Communicate effectively with team members, ensuring a positive and collaborative work environment.

Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent; 1-3 years of related experience in seafood handling and management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read, interpret documents, write reports, and effectively present information to customers and employees.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, proportions, percentages, and volume.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Knowledge of English: Ability to speak, read, and understand English is essential.
Physical Demands: This position involves frequent standing and walking throughout the shift.
Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 100 pounds are occasionally necessary.
Work Environment: Work occurs in a grocery store environment with varying temperatures.
Exposure to wet and slippery surfaces, moderate noise levels, and certain allergens and chemicals may occur.
