Hello folks,
Our six bedroom cooperative on the lower westside of Santa Cruz is looking for a new housemate/member/friend! The house has a fully-stocked kitchen, cozy communal spaces, sunny yards, laundry, garden beds, hot tub, chicken coop, and is a short walk from the New Leaf grocery store and Mitchell's Cove beach.
We are currently a group of five adults in our early 30s who are educators, engineers, foodies, surfers, cyclists, climbers, canyoneers, musicians, artists, gardeners, and outdoor enthusiasts.
Additional members of our household include eight chickens who provide us fresh eggs (in exchange for keeping food in their bowl and their roost clean).
As a co-op member, you will be responsible for preparing dinner one night per week (~3 hours) and for a completing weekly house chore (~1 hour).
When everyone does this, you give 4 hours of service and receive 24 hours in return! We share communal food, participate in a monthly house meeting, beautify the house in a seasonal work party, and generally put our hearts and minds together to build community.
We do our own home repair and have many projects around the house we need your help to tackle.
This is not just a room for rent; we are looking for someone who is committed to contributing to the co-op community in their own way.
Our household is committed to supporting both organic and local food systems, and we are omnivorous.
While you are free to cook as you choose on your cook night, meals will contain animal products and we cannot easily accommodate special diets.
The room available is roughly 120 sqft with a closet and window.
Bathrooms are shared between housemates.
Street parking is easy and widely available with no permit.
The kitchen is fully stocked, but personal fridge space is limited.
We are seeking a housemate with a community mindset, compassionate communication skills, integrity, flexibility, sensitivity to collective needs, desire to participate in the co-op.
Our ideal housemate is here because they want to be a part of our community and understands that this means putting time into upholding their dinner/chore/home repair commitments.
Please tell us a little about yourself:
- What's your name and how old are you?
- What is your favorite thing to cook? Do you have any dietary restrictions?
- What do you do for fun? What are you passionate about?
- Why do you want to live in a co-op?
Rent is approximately $700 per month, plus another $300-ish for food and utilities, and the opening begins March 15th (potentially flexible).
Thanks, and good luck in your search!
